Report: Leicester join Liverpool in race for Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri

Leicester City are reportedly set to challenge Liverpool for the Stoke City man’s signature.

According to a report from the Mirror, Leicester are interested in signing Liverpool-linked Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri this summer, as Claude Puel looks to add further depth to his wide attacking options.

Riyad Mahrez’s future with the Foxes continues to grow ever more uncertain with every day that passes, and if the Algerian does end up leaving the King Power Stadium, Puel will obviously have to bring in an able-bodied replacement.

According to the Mirror, Shaqiri is available for just £12.5 million this summer, after a clause inserted into his contract was activated following the Potters’ relegation down to the Championship.

Leicester will not have things all their own way, however, with a whole host of Premier League clubs thought to be interested in securing the services of the Swiss ace, including the likes of Liverpool, Everton and West Ham United, according to the Mirror.

Good signing for the Foxes?

If Leicester do manage to get their hands on Shaqiri for just £12.5 million, it could turn out to be an excellent capture for the east Midlands outfit.

Whilst it may seem like an impossible task to beat Liverpool to the Switzerland international’s signature, Claude Puel would be able to offer him the guarantee of first-team football – something that he would obviously not get at Anfield.

Shaqiri would be an excellent addition to the Leicester squad, whether Mahrez stays or leaves, and for just £12.5 million, there is not much better value to be had out there in the transfer market this summer.
