Leicester City are reportedly keen on Newcastle target Bas Dost.

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United could be rivalled by Premier League champions Leicester City in the race to sign Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost.
The Magpies may have landed the prolific Dwight Gayle already this summer, but it appears that manager Rafael Benitez is looking to add more of a focal point in attack.
Benitez does have Aleksandar Mitrovic to call upon, but the suspension-prone Serbian has now competition, so signing another target man would make sense ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.
The Chronicle report that Newcastle have started talks over a deal to sign Wolfsburg hitman Bas Dost, having allegedly wanted to sign him in January.

Dost, 27, stands at a huge 6ft 5in tall, and has notched 47 goals in 115 games for Wolfsburg since his 2012 move from Dutch side Heerenveen, with some streaky spells of incredible goalscoring form and frustrating misfires during his time in Germany.
Now, the Dutch international could leave after Wolfsburg snapped up German international striker Mario Gomez, with Newcastle keen to finally land him and add another target man to their ranks.
However, The Chronicle’s report states that Leicester City are also interested in signing Dost, who scored ten goals last season, making Newcastle’s pursuit of the player much more difficult than Benitez and co would like.
The Foxes have added a new forward this summer in Ahmed Musa, but his main attribute is pace, much like Jamie Vardy. Shinji Okazaki is a hard worker, but with questions over Leonardo Ulloa’s long-term future at the club, Claudio Ranieri may look for a target man to sign.
Dost certainly fits the bill, and playing for the Premeir League champions in the Champions League may prove to be more appealing than playing in the Championship for Newcastle this term.
