According to Media Foot, Leicester are interested in a January move for RC Lens striker Lois Openda.
What’s the story?
Well, the 22-year-old only arrived at RC Lens in July after the departure of Arnaut Kalimuendo, in a deal worth €10m (£9m).
In just seven Ligue 1 appearances, Openda has already scored four goals, which has attracted the interest of Brendan Rodgers and Leicester.
Media Foot believe Openda ticks all the boxes for the Foxes, with the French news outlet specifically mentioning that Leicester are looking for strikers with speed, power and efficiency.
By the sounds of it, Rodgers is searching for a Jamie Vardy replacement.
The Leicester No.9 turns 36 in January, so a younger alternative is definitely needed.
Despite showing flashes of brilliance, Kelechi Iheanacho and Patson Daka have failed to prove they can step into Vardy’s shoes on a long-term basis, so perhaps Openda will be the man to do so.
In our view, however, it will be tough to convince RC Lens to sell their new No.11 so soon after he was signed from Club Brugge.
Leicester could have the new Romelu Lukaku in Lois Openda
In the article by Media Foot, the French news outlet mention that Openda has been tipped to follow in the footsteps of Romelu Lukaku and Michy Batshuayi in Belgian football.
The 22-year-old has already won three caps for Belgium under Roberto Martinez, and he is in line for a place at the Qatar World Cup in November if he continues his fine form.
In our view, Leicester should hope Openda doesn’t earn a call-up for the World Cup, as his value could even triple if he performs well at the tournament.
With the Foxes currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League, something certainly needs to be done in January.
