Leicester City have not given up hope of signing Wesley Fofana from St Etienne this summer, according to Le10 Sport, despite speculation suggesting that the defender is on his way to AC Milan.

While Les Verts will have to adapt to life without William Saliba next season, with the Ligue 1 wonder-kid finally set to make his long-awaited trip to Arsenal, it seems there is a real possibility that St Etienne’s other centre-half will be heading out of the Stade Geoffroy Guichard too.

At the age of 19, Fofana is only nine months older than Saliba.

But he too has forced his way into St Etienne’s starting XI, while catching the eye of clubs on the other side of the Channel.

Le10 Sport claim that Leicester have their sights firmly fixed on bringing another under-the-radar youngster to the King Power and should make a bid in the very near future.

Whether the Foxes have missed the boat, however, remains to be seen.

The same publication reported earlier this week that Fofana is close to agreeing personal terms with seven-time European champions AC Milan.

The door is still ajar for Leicester though, as Milan are yet to meet St Etienne’s £18 million price-tag. So far, the Serie A giants have only offered £13 million, though the sleeping giants of French football are expected to sell eventually as they are under pressure to raise funds during the transfer market.

Despite that humiliating 4-1 defeat to Bournemouth, Leicester still have the fourth-best defensive record in the Premier League.

But, with Wes Morgan past his title-winning peak, Brendan Rodgers could do with adding some quantity to his existing quality.

“Wesley has enormous potential with the state of mind of a competitor,” St Etienne and former Leicester boss Claude Puel told the Ligue 1’s official website about Fofana.
