According to the Daily Mail, Leicester City are considering a move for Preston North End’s Ben Davies as they fear losing key defender Jonny Evans.
Evans, 32, sees his contract with the Foxes expire in the summer of 2021.
The Northern Ireland international has been linked with a move away from Leicester, and the club’s failure to secure Champions League football leaves them vulnerable.
The Daily Mail claim manager Brendan Rodgers is evaluating his options, and Preston’s Ben Davies is among the list of targets Leicester are considering this summer.
Davies is a key player for Preston after making 36 Championship appearances in 2019-20.
The commanding central defender has been linked with a move to the Premier League before.
In October last year, The Sun claimed Everton, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers were all keen while Brighton and Hove Albion lined up a £10 million move.
Preston have found it hard to retain their better players in recent years. Both Callum Robinson and Jordan Hugill departed to the top-flight within a year of each other.
If Leicester are serious in their interest, Davies could be the next to make the jump.
The 25-year-old no doubt has his best years ahead of him. Moreover, in today’s climate amid the global health pandemic, he could be available for a potential bargain fee.
Leicester also have Wes Morgan, Caglar Soyuncu and Filip Benkovic as fellow defensive options. However, losing Evans’ experience would be hard to replace.
