Leicester City want £20 million for striker Islam Slimani, with Newcastle United interested, according to the Daily Mail.

Newcastle have long been linked with a move for Slimani, although the Magpies are likely to struggle to meet Leicester’s demands unless their proposed takeover goes through.

The Foxes paid £29 million for the previously prolific Algerian 18 months ago, only to be rewarded by 12 goals from 41 appearances.

And Slimani, who is one of six senior strikers at Leicester, does not appear to feature in the plans of new boss Claude Puel, who has left him out of his last five matchday squads.

Newcastle, who slipped into the Premier League’s bottom three last weekend having lost seven of their last eight matches, are crying out for a goalscorer, with no Magpies player managing to find the net on more than three occasions all season.

The report suggests it is unlikely that alleged suitors Sporting Lisbon would be able to raise funds to compete for Slimani’s signature.
