Leicester City are set to make their first signing under Craig Shakespeare’s stewardship by purchasing Hull City defender Harry Maguire in a deal that could be worth £17m, as reported by Sky Sports.
The 24-year-old had an exceptional second half of the season for the Tigers but was unable to prevent the club from falling into the Championship, and with Maguire harbouring international ambitions, a move to the Premier League was always likely.

According to the Yorkshire Post, Sheffield United will pick up £1.4m of the deal as there was a clause in Maguire’s move to Hull that if he was sold for anything over £3m, the Blades would be entitled to 10% of any profit made.
Maguire featured 36 times for Hull in all competitions last season, 29 of which came in the Premier League, and scored two and assisted two as Hull ultimately finished 18th, with the Tigers’ fate being sealed in game week 37 of 38.

The Sky Sports report claims that a deal could be announced by the weekend, as Leicester seek to strengthen their backline and improve on their performance last season, which saw them finish 12th – though they were only two points behind eighth placed Southampton.
By doing so, the Foxes ‘achieved’ the worst title defence in Premier League history, with Leicester unable to repeat their heroics from the 2015/16 season which saw them win the league against all odds, and at one point the club seemed destined for a relegation battle.
