Report: Leicester City Riyad Mahrez hands in transfer request amid Manchester City offer

It is the second time that the Algerian winger has asked to leave the King Power Stadium.

Sky Sports are reporting that Riyad Mahrez has handed in an official transfer request at Leicester City.

The Algerian international’s actions may have been prompted by a bid from Premier League leaders Manchester City, which Sky Sports understands to be in excess of £50m.

It is the second time in six months that Mahrez has demanded to leave the King Power Stadium, having failed to engineer a move away in the summer, as BBC Sport reports.

The winger got his head down to score eight league goals and as many assists for the Foxes this season, but now appears to have got wind of City’s interest in signing him.

Pep Guardiola’s side are 12 points clear at the top of the table but have just lost Leroy Sane to injury, which could explain why they have moved for Mahrez so late in the window.

Leicester manager Claude Puel told Sky Sports earlier this month that Mahrez might be worth £100m, and the Foxes will not sell unless the Citizens significantly raise their offer.

The transfer record at the Etihad Stadium has already been broken today with the £57m capture of defender Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao – fee reported by BBC Sport.
