Islam Slimani has scored just eight Premier League goals since his £29m move to Leicester City but a move back to Portugal beckons.
Leicester City striker Islam Slimani is set to return to Sporting Lisbon at the end of the season, according to Fotospor.
Next summer will mark the three year anniversary of Leicester’s club record £29 million deal that saw Slimani leave the Portuguese giants for the King Power Stadium but it’s fair to say his time in English football has not gone to plan.
An old-school target man, the Algerian international struggled to deal with the pace of the Premier League, scoring just eight times for The Foxes. A loan spell at Newcastle United in the second half of 2017/18 contained plenty of injuries, a silly suspension and 131 goalless minutes of football.
These days, Slimani is plying his trade for Fenerbahce but this temporary spell isn’t going particularly well either.
The 30-year-old has scored just five goals in all competitions, one in 15 Super Lig games, with Fener in genuine danger of relegation.
And it seems that Slimani’s miserable time on Leicester’s books is coming to an end. Fotospor claims that he has been in contact with Sporting ahead of a potential return to Portugal and it is believed that he has already agreed a deal in principle.
It seems he is set to become the first casualty of the Brendan Rodgers’ era.
