Southampton could sell Jannik Vestergaard for £15 million this summer with Leicester City renewing their interest in a January target, according to The Sun (20th July, Goals pull-out, page 12).
Six months ago, the Foxes were on the verge of signing a giant Danish international for a cool £26 million (Goal).
Such a fee would have seen Southampton make a substantial profit on a player who only arrived at St Mary’s in 2018.
But, after getting cold feet at the eleventh hour and backing out of a deal that would see Vestergaard join a Premier League rival midway through the season, the Saints might soon be regretting that decision.
Because, according to The Sun, the former Borussia Monchengladbach man has seen his value fall by around £11 million in the space of just half a year.
Perhaps this is a result of the ongoing financial crisis which has left an indelible imprint on the transfer market.
Then again, it might simply be a reflection of the fact that Vestergaard still hasn’t established himself as a centre-half of guaranteed Premier League quality, even if he has forced his way into Ralph Hasenhuttl’s plans since the re-start.

Either way, Leicester are set to make a move again, in the knowledge that Southampton could sell for £3 million less than they fee they paid to bring Vestergaard to the South Coast two years ago.
In Jack Stephens and Jan Bednarek, Hasenhuttl already has a pair of centre-halves who appear to have a big future in English football.
And, if all goes to plan, both Omar Colley and Mohammed Salisu will be joining from Sampdoria and Real Valladolid later in the summer.
