Tottenham Hotspur have been watching Castello Lukeba but aren’t fully convinced by the Lyon defender.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Tottenham sent a scout to France to watch Lukeba on Friday.
However, it’s suggested that Tottenham are yet to be fully convinced by Lukeba and may not firm up their interest.
Lyon hosted Strasbourg on Friday night and this proved to be a very up-and-down night for Lukeba.
Morgan Sanson fired Strasbourg in front before Lukeba levelled it up.
Maxence Caqueret put Lyon ahead and that goal proved to be the winner.
However, Lukeba was sent off in injury time and that may well be a factor in why Tottenham aren’t fully convinced yet.
Lyon boss Laurent Blanc admitted after the game that Lukeba had endured a ‘difficult’ night against Strasbourg.
The potential is there in Lukeba but Tottenham seemingly won’t be making a move for him this summer.
Who is Castello Lukeba?
Lukeba was born in Lyon and joined the club’s ranks way back in 2011, aged just eight.
After emerging into the Lyon B team, Lukeba has now become a first-team player for the Ligue 1 side.
Lukeba made his first-team debut at the start of last season and now has 64 senior appearances to his name, scoring four goals.
Lukeba is a left-footed centre back and has even been compared to Josko Gvardiol by Lyon teammate Dejan Lovren.
There are also parallels to Samuel Umtiti, another left-footed centre back who emerged at Lyon.
Left-footed centre backs are hot commodities in the modern game and 20-year-old Lukeba appears to have enormous potential.
The France Under-21 international – who can also play for Angola – isn’t the finished product just yet though.
Tottenham may prefer to wait a little while before making a move for Lukeba, but he’s a name for Spurs to keep tabs on.
