Report: Leeds yet to agree new contract with Mallik Wilks

Leeds United striker Mallik Wilks is out of contract at the end of the season, but no new deal has been agreed.

According to a report from Leeds Live, Leeds are yet to reach an agreement with Mallik Wilks over a new contract despite the forward’s current deal expiring at the end of the campaign.

Wilks is yet to make a Championship appearance for the Whites, but many supporters would have been forgiven for expecting the youngster to be handed fresh terms after an encouraging spell out on loan.

The 20-year-old – who has previously joined Accrington Stanley and Grimsby Town – has scored eight goals in 30 appearances for Doncaster Rovers, including seven in 25 in League One.

Leeds Live reports that his deal expires in the summer, and no agreement is currently in place over a new contract at Elland Road as he reaches the final days of his loan spell at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported over the summer that Wilks was one of the loanees that Leeds had higher hopes for. And given that he has done fairly well with Donny, it is perhaps a surprise that the club are yet to extend those terms.

He unquestionably faces an incredibly tough task trying to make the grade at Elland Road. But there are a couple of attacking roles he could feature in, and the promise that he has shown out on loan does hint that he has the potential to gradually play his way into Marcelo Bielsa’s plans in the future – if he signs a new deal.
