Leeds United and Wolves have reportedly missed out on FC Barcelona winger Francisco Trincao, with Sporting Lisbon set to sign the Portuguese international.

According to Record, the 22-year-old winger is on the verge of joining the Primeira Liga giants just a few months after Trincao returned to Barcelona from Wolves, where the forward spent last season, though Bruno Lage’s side reportedly passed on the £25m option to sign the youngster.

Despite arriving at Molineux to much fanfare, Trincao struggled greatly in the Premier League as the winger only managed three goals and one assist in all competitions as Wolves missed on European football again, with Sporting now set to sign the attacker at a bargain price.

Although Trincao was unimpressive for Wolves, Bruno Lage’s side were still reportedly interested in signing the Portuguese star, with Leeds also joining the race in recent months as a potential option to ease Barcelona’s financial commitments for a deal over Raphinha.

However, both Premier League sides how now missed out on Trincao, who is set to sign for Sporting next week and return to his home country just two years after leaving SC Braga for a move to Barcelona, where the forward also struggled for form.

Trincao’s reputation has hit something of a low following his poor spell with Barcelona and even more forgettable stint with Wolves, yet at just 22, the winger has many years ahead of him to hit his incredible potential, signing for Sporting could do just that.

After all, Sporting are one of the best club’s in Europe for improving young players, and Trincao could become a superstar for the Portuguese giants if he hits the ground running in Lisbon, with the forward no doubt eager to return to his best after going from comparisons to Lionel Messi to an outcast at Barcelona.
