Leeds United could switch their attention to the Middlesbrough man.
Leeds United ‘will launch a £5 million bid’ for Middlesbrough’s Patrick Bamford should the Whites fail to land Matej Vydra, according to the Daily Mirror (July 28, page 69).
The newspaper claims Leeds’ two month pursuit of Vydra is in danger of collapse over the Derby County forward’s £50,000-a-week wage demands.
That is despite the Sun reporting earlier this week that United were ready to conclude an £11 million deal after reaching a compromise with Vydra.
And Leeds are now ready to turn to Bamford, according to the Daily Mirror – which adds that the forward is unsettled at Middlesbrough.
Whether Middlesbrough would accept such an offer for Bamford remains to be seen, however, with reports suggesting the Teessiders wanted more than three times that amount – £16 million – earlier in the summer.
One Leeds deal that does appear to be progressing is that for Barry Douglas, with the Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back having undergone a medical on Friday, according to the Daily Mirror.
