According to The Daily Mail, Leeds United and West Ham United will have to pay £18 million to sign Sam Johnstone from West Bromwich Albion in the summer transfer window.

Leeds, West Ham and Tottenham are interested in signing the 28-year-old goalkeeper this summer, according to the report.

West Brom are open to selling him, but the Baggies, who are in danger of going down to the Championship at the end of the season, reportedly want £18 million as transfer fee for him.

Worth the transfer fee?

Illan Meslier is the first-choice goalkeeper at Leeds and has done very well in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old Frenchman is very young, and a player of Johnstone’s experience and quality would be good for the squad.

Kiko Casilla is the back-up goalkeeper at Leeds at the moment, and if the Whites are able to move him on, then a spot would open in the squad.

The problem that Leeds could face in signing Johnstone – described as “outstanding” by Spurs legend Gary Lineker on Twitter last month – is convincing the 28-year-old that he will be guaranteed a place in the starting lineup.
