A report from Portugal has shed a little more light on Leeds United’s reported interest in Florentino Luis.
Tuttomercatoweb reported this week that the newly-promoted Whites were interested in bringing the Benfica midfielder to Elland Road this summer.
Leeds won promotion back to the Premier League earlier this month and with that comes a lot of financial reward.
Suffice to say that the West Yorkshire club will have quite a bit to spend this summer, but no money will be spent on Luis initially.
If Leeds sign the 20-year-old – rated at £25 million – it’ll be on a season-long loan arrangement originally, according to Mais Futebol.
The Portuguese outlet adds that United will have an option to buy clause included in the loan, meaning a permanent deal could happen next summer if it suits all parties.
Some Leeds fans could be forgiven for being worried about Luis potentially joining, because he’s a defensive midfielder and Marcelo Bielsa already has a brilliant one of them in Kalvin Phillips.
But Phillips was linked with a move away from his boyhood club last summer and will probably be again this summer, so their supporters wouldn’t want to sign Luis as a replacement for The Yorkshire Pirlo.
