According to The Telegraph, Leeds United are interested in signing Brighton and Hove Albion defender Haydon Roberts this summer.

It’s claimed that Brentford and Derby County are both interested too, whilst RB Leipzig and Mainz are also in the race for the teenager.

Leeds are set to lose loanee Ben White back to Brighton this summer, and they now seemingly want Seagulls teammate Roberts to replace him.

The report even notes that Roberts has been compared to White, so Leeds view him as a player who can make an impact in senior football.

The 18-year-old has come up through the Brighton ranks, and already has 19 caps for England across spells with the Under-18 and Under-19’s.

Roberts looks to be an exciting prospect for the future, but there is one big difference between him and White – and it’s in the stages of their development.

White is four years older than Roberts, and arrived at Leeds having already had spells in League Two with Newport County and League One with Peterborough United, giving him some experience before playing in the Championship.

Roberts is more of a long-term project, but if Leeds think they have found a new Ben White at a fraction of the price, then it could be a smart move.
