Souleymane Doukara is set to leave Leeds United but will he swap the Championship for the Turkish Super Lig?
The fact that Souleymane Doukara has not appeared in a single game for Leeds United in the first few weeks of Thomas Christiansen’s reign means reports linking him with a move away from Elland Road have come as no surprise.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reported last week that The Whites were open to offers for the Senegalese frontman, the former Cagliari forward arriving during Massimo Cellino’s Italian recruitment drive in the summer of 2014.
And the Lancashire Evening Post reported that Preston North End, who Doukara scored against in a 3-0 win for Leeds in the spring, had been offered the chance to make a move with just a year remaining on the 25-year-old’s contract.
However, it now appears that Doukara is likely to leave England altogether before the transfer window shuts in just over a week’s time. Because Turkish publication Fanatik reports that Osmanlispor are in advanced negotiations with Doukara and hope to announce the deal shortly.
Doukara was a regular under Garry Monk at Leeds last season, his versatility and work ethic meaning that he was used frequently on the left-wing while the now departed Chris Wood lead the line.
However, he was never universally popular among Leeds supporters with many questioning his attacking output. In 32 Championship games last season, Doukara scored six goals and set up just one.
Now, with attacking reinforcements arriving in the shape of Samu Saiz and Caleb Ekuban, it appears that Doukara is surplus to requirements.
