According to The Mirror, Leeds United will sign Wigan Athletic striker Joe Gelhardt this week in a deal totalling around £2.5million.
It’s claimed that the deal will be worth £1million up front, rising to £2.5million due to add-ons included in the move.
Leeds now expect the move to be completed this week, having capitalised on Wigan’s financial struggles to pounce for Gelhardt.
Over the weekend, Leeds Live reported that there were concerns that Gelhardt was holding out for an offer from Everton or Rangers before committing to Leeds.
It now seems that those concerns are subsiding, with Leeds having new confidence that a deal will be done within days.
Gelhardt, 18, has come up through the Wigan ranks, and impressed in 18 Championship appearances this season, playing either up front or out wide.
The Liverpool-born teenager has made 24 appearances for England at youth level too, bagging 11 goals in those appearances.
After comparisons to Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney, Gelhardt now looks set for a move to Elland Road – and he will have a chance to make an impact in the Premier League.
