According to The Sun, Leeds United want to sign West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone – but face a battle with Brighton and Hove Albion.

It’s claimed that Johnstone’s form is attracting major interest, and West Brom may be left in a tough position over his future.

He has just 18 months left on his contract, and West Brom may sell in January or the summer before he leaves for nothing, with a £7million fee suggested.

Leeds are thought to be keeping close tabs on Johnstone, whilst Brighton are also keen with both sides potentially seeking a goalkeeper.

The Whites have put their faith in youngster Illan Meslier, but Kiko Casilla’s future is unclear, meaning a more proven goalkeeper in English football like Johnstone could make perfect sense.

Meanwhile, Brighton have dropped Mat Ryan in favour of Robert Sanchez, meaning there is something of a transitional phase between the sticks for the Seagulls.

Johnstone has made 63 saves in the Premier League this season, more than any other stopper in the top flight, and it’s no great surprise that he is attracting interest.

The 27-year-old may even make a push towards the England squad ahead of the European Championships, and it will be fascinating to see whether he would risk a move to another club in January if Leeds, Brighton or anyone else come calling.
