Leeds United want to re-sign James Milner and are desperate for the Liverpool man to delay a decision on his future.
That is according to a report from 90Min, who claim that Brighton and Hove Albion are pushing to sign Milner.
The Liverpool veteran is out of contract this summer and currently looks like to leave Anfield on a free transfer.
Liverpool may offer Milner a deal but other clubs are now in the race – including his former club Leeds.
It’s suggested that Leeds and Nottingham Forest want Milner to wait until the summer to decide his future.
Everton are in a similar boat as all three clubs are in a battle against relegation and can’t commit to deals right now.
That’s ultimately why Brighton are fighting to get a deal done right now and beat the competition.
A move to join Roberto De Zerbi must be very appealing to Milner, but the emotional pull of Leeds could be strong.
Jesse Marsch wasn’t keen on James Milner joining Leeds United
Milner was born in Leeds, grew up supporting Leeds and started his career in the Leeds youth ranks.
Milner even became the youngest player to score in the Premier League as he found the net for Leeds aged just 16.
The chance to finish up his career at Elland Road must be hugely appealing to Milner – especially as it could open the door to becoming their manager.
Leeds would need to stay in the Premier League to strike this kind of deal but a move seems more feasible now Jesse Marsch has gone.
Marsch suggested that it would have been ‘easy’ to bring Milner back to Leeds but he wasn’t all that keen on such a strategy.
Marsch leaving the club in February means a deal for Milner now seems a little more likely – but it will depend on whether Brighton can get a deal done soon.
