Genoa’s Aleandro Rosi has emerged as another left-field transfer target for Leeds United’s Director of Football Victor Orta.

When the reports emerged in Tuttomercatoweb on Monday afternoon that Leeds United were looking to Serie A for a full-back, it was only natural to assume that the Championship side were looking to reinforce the left side of their defence.

Leeds have not settled on a first-choice left-back all season. But Tuttomercatoweb claims that they are targeting a deal for Genoa’s Aleandro Rosi instead, a natural-born right-back.

The 30-year-old has been a regular starter for Genoa this season but is out of contract in the summer and the Serie A strugglers may be tempted to cash in rather than lose the experienced, attack-minded defender on a free.

And if they are willing to sell, there will be no shortage of interest from England. The report states that Leeds face competition from Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion – who will sell summer signing Ezequiel Schelotto to make room for Rosi.

The report also states that the Italian is also on the radar of one of the Sheffield clubs – though helpfully declines to confirm whether that is United or Wednesday.

Though Leeds fans may be a little concerned by links to the former Roma youngster. Director of Football Victor Orta and chairman Andrea Radrizzani have come under criticism from some quarters for prioritising cheap, overseas signings over players who have a proven track-record in England’s second tier.

Tuttomercatoweb, however, point out that Genoa are hoping to tie Rosi down to a new deal – meaning it is far from certain that he will be playing his football in England next season.
