Leeds United close on first signing of the transfer window.
Leeds United are set to sign Villarreal winger Alfonso Pedraza, according to Spanish newspaper AS.
Pedraza is under contract to Villarreal by has been on loan at second division side Lugo.
Villarreal are paying Lugo to break the loan deal and send Pedraza to Leeds, with the Whites having a ‘mandatory purchase option’ of £8 million if they win promotion to the Premier League.
Pedraza, 20, is a Spanish youth international who is hoping that good performances for Leeds will earn him a spot in this summer’s under-21 European Championships tournament, having won the under-19 competition in 2015.
Leeds are looking for their first addition of the transfer window, with today’s loss to Sutton United in the FA Cup underlining the lack of depth in their squad.
Pedraza plays on the left wing and has scored six goals and provided eight assists in 22 matches in Spain’s second tier this season so far.
Leeds a lack of natural wingers in the squad, with Hadi Sacko, missing time through injury over the past month.
