Leeds United have seen an approach to take Crook on trial rejected by the non-league club.

Leeds United scouts continue to watch Harrogate Town goalkeeper Peter Crook, according to the Harrogate Advertiser.

HITC Sport reported in July that Leeds were tracking the 22-year-old, along with Premier League side Swansea City.

And the Whites’ interest does not appear to have waned, with former player Neil Sullivan said to have been deployed to watch fellow shot-stopper Crook in action against Fylde on Tuesday.

HITC Sport understands that Leeds saw an approach to take Crook on trial rejected by Town, who play in English football’s sixth tier.

And Sulphurites boss Simon Weaver told the Advertiser: “I remain with the stance that he is a contracted player at Harrogate Town and they should back their own naked eye like what always used to happen. If people want to scout they should get in the car like I do to go and watch players.

“If I wanted a Fylde centre forward, would I be allowed him on trial? I doubt it. You are risking a contracted player. The fans would be in uproar if he went down the road for a trial and breaks his leg.

“We are nine down already, we don’t want our number one down too. However if they come in with a bid, we would have to consider it.”

Crook had a trial with top-flight new boys Burnley in the summer, having impressed for Harrogate Town in last season’s National League North.

The former Scunthorpe United trainee kept clean sheets in a third of his 24 matches and was consequently named in the divisional team of the year.

Leeds have four senior keepers on their books, although Bailey Peacock-Farrell is currently injured and the futures of Ross Turnbull and Marco Silvestri remain uncertain, despite the Italian’s EFL Cup heroics.
