According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are pressing ahead with their attempts to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow next month.
The Whites have seen Bailey Peacock-Farrell feature as their first-choice goalkeeper this season, but it’s clear that another stopper is needed.
Loanee Jamal Blackman has been forced to return to Chelsea after suffering a major injury, and Marcelo Bielsa may now push for a new goalkeeper to arrive.
The Yorkshire Evening Post claim that Leeds are aiming to sign a goalkeeper early in January, and Newcastle’s Darlow is a top target.
It’s claimed that the Magpies are prepared to let Darlow go for around £4million, but Leeds may instead look for a loan deal until the end of the season.
The 28-year-old appears to be Leeds’ first-choice target as they line up a new goalkeeper, and he could be interested in a move given how he’s been sat on the sidelines at Newcastle.
Formerly of Nottingham Forest, Darlow is stuck behind Martin Dubravka at Newcastle, and with Rob Elliot and Freddie Woodman also at the club, he may well be available.
It’s unclear whether Darlow would be first choice or jus experienced competition for Peacock-Farrell, but he could end up being Leeds’ first January signing if the Whites get their way.
