Report: Leeds United make approach for Matthew Pennington of Everton, willing to wait

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United side could stay active in the market beyond today, with Everton defender Matthew Pennington a target.

According to a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United have made an approach for Everton’s Matthew Pennington, but their business is likely to extend beyond deadline day.

Leeds are keen to bring in another centre-back, with Pennington deemed a good option.

The Everton defender spent last season on loan at Elland Road, and he could be brought back to add cover to Marcelo Bielsa’s backline.

However, Leeds may well still remain in the market for business after the deadline closes tonight.

The Daily Mirror live blog (07:12, 9th August) claims that Muhamed Besic is another target for Leeds, which they will not give up on even if they fail to get a deal done by 5pm tonight.

Leeds are willing to work in the loan market, which stays open until the end of the month.

Leeds have already done some impressive business in recent times, and they won’t panic, even if they fail to get a deal over the line on deadline day.
