Carlos Carvalhal may not be returning to Sheffield Wednesday after all amid recent links with Yorkshire rivals Leeds United.

Sheffield Wednesday appear to have ‘no chance’ of bringing former boss Carlos Carvalhal back to Hillsborough.

That is according to a report from the Sheffield Star, who reported that Carvalhal was under consideration for a return to Wednesday.

The Owls stunned everyone by parting ways with boss Darren Moore on Monday despite winning promotion to the Championship.

It’s unclear just who Wednesday want to replace Moore but Carvalhal was suggested as a candidate.

However, The Sheffield Star quote Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri as saying there is ’no chance’ of that deal taking place.

Chansiri was speaking at a fan forum on Tuesday evening and appeared to completely rule out Carvalhal making a stunning return.

The Portuguese boss took charge of Wednesday back in 2015 and immediately guided them to the Championship playoff final, only to lose to Hull City.

Carvalhal moved on in 2017 but is still liked by Wednesday fans and is available after leaving Celta Vigo last week.

Leeds United still have a shot at Carlos Carvalhal

Carvalhal may still have a route back to Yorkshire though.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon claimed earlier in June that Carvalhal is on the wish list at Leeds United.

The Whites have parted ways with Sam Allardyce and are now trying to appoint a replacement.

Carvalhal’s availability will appeal to Leeds, as will his previous Championship experience with Wednesday.

The Owls seemingly looking elsewhere means the emotional pull of Wednesday can be ruled out too.

We still think that some managers will be bigger priorities than Carvalhal; the likes of Daniel Farke and Scott Parker appear to be top targets.

They will likely be ahead of Carvalhal in the Leeds pecking order, but Wednesday seemingly won’t be an obstacle if the Whites to make a move.
