Leeds United are once again showing an interest in signing Manchester City talent James McAtee but face a battle for his services.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Leeds are chasing McAtee for the summer transfer window.

There are a few problems for Leeds in their pursuit of McAtee though.

Firstly, Manchester City want to give McAtee a new contract to stay at the Etihad Stadium.

Then there is Sheffield United, who currently have McAtee on loan and would like to keep him for another year.

McAtee has helped the Blades reach the Premier League and Paul Heckingbottom wants him back again.

McAtee’s campaign has only sparked interest from elsewhere though as Aston Villa, Leicester City, Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth are all keen.

City are unlikely to want to sell McAtee and any interested clubs may now have to settle for a loan move.

Leeds United have wanted James McAtee for a while now

The Daily Mail claimed last summer that Leeds are right in the mix to sign Manchester City talent James McAtee on loan this summer.

The Mail even suggested that Leeds were keeping tabs on McAtee in the hope of taking McAtee as part of a deal for Kalvin Phillips.

The midfielder did end up leaving Leeds for Manchester City and Romeo Lavia made the move from the Etihad Stadium to Elland Road.

Sheffield United were able to land McAtee on loan though, and he has been impressive for the Blades.

The 20-year-old has bagged eight goals and three assists in 35 games this season, thriving as an attacking midfielder.

Much will depend on Leeds’ relegation fate, as dropping into the Championship is likely to rule them out.

There is even a chance for McAtee to go back to City and settle into first-team life under Pep Guardiola, with Leeds’ hopes up in the air.
