According to AS Argentina, Leeds United are interested in signing River Plate goalkeeper Augusto Batalla, but face competition from Olimpo.
The Whites are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, having offloaded flops Felix Wiedwald and Andrew Lonergan already in the hope of revamping their options between the sticks.
Bailey Peacock-Farrell could still start the season as first-choice goalkeeper, but the Yorkshire Evening Post claim that the Whites are keen on a deal for Chelsea stopper Jamal Blackman.
Now, another name has been linked with a move to Elland Road, as AS Argentina claim that Leeds are one of two clubs interested in signing River Plate goalkeeper Augusto Batalla, along with Argentinian side Olimpo.
Batalla, 22, has come up through the ranks with River having joined the club way back in 2001 a the age of just five, and made his first-team debut in 2016.
The goalkeeper – who turned down a move to Real Madrid in 2015 – has made 36 league appearances for River, but recently spent time out on loan at Atletico Tucuman for playing time.
Batalla hasn’t quite lived up to his potential so far, and could subsequently move on this summer, with new Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa potentially familiar with his compatriot.
Blackman may still be the priority, but Batalla could be a fallback option for the Whites as they look to close a deal for a goalkeeper sooner rather than later.
