Leeds United have shown initial interest in reuniting with their former player and Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph, according to a report.
The Sun have claimed that Leeds have shown interest in landing the 29-year-old in what would be as an emotional move, but City are demanding £15 million for the services of the £80,000-a-week player.
As a result, the report states that Delph, who lifted his second Premier League title with the Manchester-based club this season, will be too expensive for the Championship side.
Delph came through the Elland Road academy when they were still in the second tier. But given his talents, he moved to the Premier League and years later has thrived at the Etihad by winning six trophies.
But in recent seasons, his game time under Pep Guardiola has reduced with the Sun report stating that a number of Premier League clubs are also showing interest in the utility man, along with Leeds.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side recently missed out on promotion to the Premier League when they were pipped to automatic promotion by Sheffield United and Norwich before losing their play-off semi-final to Derby County.
If the Yorkshire club can pull off a deal for Delph then it would be quite remarkable and potentially game-changing for their promotion push next season.
The Elland Road faithful will be keen on keeping hold of their manager beyond this season then bulking up the squad because that will only increase their chances of making a return to the promised land.
It has been 15 years since Leeds tasted top-flight football, but their performances this season have only given fans hope that they are closer than ever in making that return.
