According to the Daily Mail, Fulham are now rivalling Leeds United for the signing of Benfica talent Florentino Luis.

It’s claimed that Scott Parker wants to add a new midfielder this summer, with Villarreal pushing to sign Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa permanently.

The Cottagers now want Luis, believing they can land him for a £2.5million loan fee with a view to a £40million permanent deal.

Leeds have allegedly asked about signing Luis, with Marcelo Bielsa and co viewing him as an ideal signing following promotion.

AC Milan are interested too, whilst Manchester City and Manchester United have even scouted him in the past.

Luis, 20, has come up through the Benfica academy, but has only made 18 first-team appearances for the club.

Primarily a holding midfielder, Luis is strong in the tackle and able to read the game well in front of his defence, meaning Leeds may view him as competition for Kalvin Phillips.

Luis looks set for a bright future, but two promoted clubs are now vying for his signature – and Leeds won’t have a free run at the Portuguese talent.
