Leeds United are said to be looking to appoint Middlesbrough’s Aitor Karanka, if they cannot complete a deal for Garry Monk.

According to a report in TeamTalk, Leeds United are making a contingency plan should Garry Monk not sign a new contract.
Leeds are keen to talk to Monk over extending his current contract, which expires in the near future.
However, new Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani is said to be preparing for the worst.

Radrizzani has his sights set on turning to Aitor Karanka, should Monk turn down his offer to stay at Elland Road.
Radrizzani is said to have some doubts over Monk, even though the former Swansea boss has earned a lot of credit for the job he has done in his first season with the Yorkshire club.
Karanka is currently out of work, following his dismissal from Middlesbrough.

However, the Spanish boss has experience of getting teams out of the Championship – after helping Boro earn promotion back in the 2015/16 campaign.
It is still expected that Monk will stay on at Leeds, but it is far from a certainty – and Radrizzani is eager to have a back-up plan in place.
And if Monk does decide to move elsewhere – with Middlesbrough interested in him – Leeds will apparently move to appoint Karanka.
