Leeds United are among the clubs linked with a move for the Portsmouth defender.

Leeds United are unable to match Brighton and Hove Albion’s £6 million bid for Matt Clarke, according to Teamtalk.

And the website claims Brighton have already seized the initiative – agreeing a deal for the Portsmouth centre-back.

Clarke is said to be heading up the south coast as a potential replacement for Lewis Dunk, amid Leicester City interest in the 27-year-old.

And whether or not Dunk moves could have potential implications for Leeds, who according to the Yorkshire Evening Post are interested in loaning the young Brighton defender, Ben White.

Teamtalk claims that Leicester plan to replace their own prized centre-back, Harry Maguire, with Dunk.

Leeds spent chunks of last season short in Clarke’s position, with the recognised trio Liam Cooper, Pontus Jansson and Gaetano Berardi each forced to sit out.

And that, combined with untimely absences in other areas, is perhaps one of the biggest contributing factors in Leeds’ slide out of contention.

Would Clarke have been a worthwhile addition for Leeds?
