Leeds United are taking on Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening, with Marcelo Bielsa looking to extend his winning run.
Shackleton came off the bench during Leeds’ impressive 4-1 victory over Derby County, with the youngster clearly catching the eye of Bielsa in training.
And the YEP claim that Shackleton is likely to be given the nod to start in Leeds’ next game, which comes against Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup tomorrow.
Bielsa has hinted that he will make big changes to his line-up for the cup game, with the Argentine keen to ensure his squad remains fresh.
He said to Leeds Live: “We will have some changes. Some players who played today will play, the majority of players who didn’t played today will play.”
Leeds have made a wonderful start to the season, but Bielsa’s style is physically demanding on his players.
Bielsa demands a high press, which all Leeds’ players have bought into, and rotation could be crucial.
Leeds’ number one priority this season is to earn promotion, so it could be that the Carabao Cup gives Bielsa a chance to use his fringe players and youngsters.
New signing Patrick Bamford will also be hoping to be given the nod to start up-front for Leeds against Bolton.
