Both Rangers and Leeds United held strong interest in new Preston North End signing Tommy Spurr, report the Lancashire Evening Post.
Preston completed Spurr’s signing from Blackburn Rovers this week, moving as a free agent with his contract expired.
Blackburn had also sought to keep Spurr, who told the Lancashire Evening Post he felt like he needed a change.

Spurr had been at Blackburn for three seasons, joining from Doncaster Rovers after beginning his career at Sheffield Wednesday.
Spurr, 28, was born in Leeds, but would have faced a tough task to displace Whites player of the season Charlie Taylor at left-back.

The youngster however only has one year left on his contract at Elland Road, and Spurr could have been a useful option in terms of insurance in case Taylor is sold or leaves on a free.
Rangers have raided the English Football League for bargain additions since Mark Warburton took over as manager last season and Spurr on a free transfer would have been just that.
His acquisition is a shrewd one for Preston, while Leeds and Rangers fans can simply take solace that they remain very much active and on the lookout for new players ahead of the upcoming season.
