Leeds United have reportedly targeted Oxford United boss Michael Appleton for the management job at the club – with Steve Evans looking to be on his way out of Elland Road this summer.
The Daily Mail has reported today that Appleton has ‘been targeted’ as a potential management option for the Leeds job by Massimo Cellino.

Appleton has led Oxford United to League Two promotion in 2015-16 but would still not be considered an inspired choice by many a Leeds United fan.
Firstly, he is a former Manchester United player and before Oxford he struggled to get his management career into first gear with the likes of Portsmouth, Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers prior to his Kassam Stadium entrance.

Although, in fairness to the 40-year-old, neither of those three previous jobs were exactly under the most stable ownership.
Appleton would however remain something of a shock candidate if Leeds, as expected, do replace current boss Evans this summer.

Leeds are also said to be looking into Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke and Crotone manager Ivan Juric as potential replacements for Evans – whose contract with the club expires this summer.
