Leeds United reportedly plan to step up their interest in Liverpool’s Ryan Kent, with Kemar Roofe closing in on a move away.

Ryan Kent #40 of Liverpool handles the ball during a pre-season friendly against Sevilla at Fenway Park on July 21, 2019 in Boston, Massachusetts.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Leeds plan to step up their interest in Ryan Kent with Anderlecht set to announce the £7 million capture of Kemar Roofe imminently.

The Mail reports that Roofe has completed a medical with Vincent Kompany’s men and has agreed a three-year deal. But despite losing a striker, Marcelo Bielsa does not appear to be interested in signing another frontman before the window shuts.

According to the Mail, the Liverpool youngster is the player that Bielsa has asked for the club to bring in once Roofe’s departure is confirmed.

Kent went into this summer off the back of an outstanding loan spell at Rangers last season. He grew as the campaign went on and ultimately established himself as a game-changer in Steven Gerrard’s squad.

It is interesting that Kent is the man that Bielsa wants to replace Roofe. Kent predominantly played out on the wing during his time at Ibrox, whereas Roofe’s best spell at Elland Road came when he was given the chance to play up front.

It will be intriguing to see what Bielsa plans to do to make up for losing a striker. Both Jack Harrison and Tyler Roberts have played up front under Bielsa, while Helder Costa is perhaps also a contender to provide cover for Patrick Bamford. There is, of course, also the likes of Ryan Edmondson and Kun Temenuzhkov in the under-23s.

Losing Roofe is a big blow for the Whites, and some supporters may not be best pleased to see Bielsa go after another winger. But Kent showed during his time at Rangers that he has a piece of magic up his sleeve, so it would be no surprise to see the youngster take his game to a completely different level working closely with Bielsa.
