Leeds United and Huddersfield Town are both interested in Sverrir Ingason.

According to a report from The Sun, Leeds are set to battle Huddersfield for the signature of Iceland international Sverrir Ingason, who boasts an incredibly low release clause in his contract.

The Sun suggested that Huddersfield have been interested in Ingason for a while, while Leeds’ interest stems from their appointment of Thomas Christiansen, who is a big fan of the 23-year-old centre-back.

And despite the youngster plying his trade in La Liga this past season – unfortunately, being a part of the Granada side that was relegated from the top flight – The Sun suggests that either side could land him for a small fee due to the presence of a £2 million release clause in his contract.

The Sun adds that both teams are willing to trigger the clause, so it appears that he may well be on his way to England this summer if either club does decide to pursue a deal.

Ingason – who was part of the Iceland side that enjoyed a much longer run in last summer’s European Championships than anyone was expecting – would certainly be a welcome addition at Leeds given their lack of centre-back options.

Fellow Scandinavian Pontus Jansson is already a cult-hero at Elland Road, but Kyle Bartley’s return to Swansea has left just Jansson and Liam Cooper as Christiansen’s only senior out-and-out centre-back options.

So given their need to strengthen, it would certainly hardly be a surprise if the highly-rated defender did have an offer from Leeds to respond to this summer.
