Leeds United continue to be linked with Michael Frey.
According to Fotomac in Turkey, Leeds United remain in the race for Fenerbahce striker Michael Frey – but face competition from Caykur Rizespor.
The Whites may be in the market for another striker this summer, with concerns over Kemar Roofe’s future and the prospect of too much being expected of Patrick Bamford.
Back in May, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported that Leeds had an interest in Fenerbahce hitman Frey, but news since then has been a little thin on the ground.
Now, Frey’s name is being linked with Leeds again, as it’s believed that he’s interested in a move to England, but there could be a twist in the form of Caykur Rizespor.
They want to keep Frey in Turkey, and have actually built up a decent relationship with Fenerbahce having just sold target man Vedat Muriqi to them, and he may well force Frey out of the club as a result of his arrival.
Leeds will be hoping to fend off Caykur Rizespor in the race for Frey, despite the fact that he scored just five goals last season, and his desire to play in England is certainly a boost.
Some may wonder whether Frey – a big, powerhouse of a striker – would really fit into Marcelo Bielsa’s fluid style, but the success of some of his strikers in years gone by actually hints at him fitting the bill perfectly.
Similarly physical target men like Fernando Llorente and Andre-Pierre Gignac both enjoyed great success under Bielsa, and with the 24-year-old Swiss striker having real potential, he could actually be a smart addition – as long as Caykur Rizespor don’t get involved.
