Leeds United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Italy U21 starlet Marco Carnesecchi with the Atalanta goalkeeper rejecting the chance to join Massimo Taibi’s Reggina side, according to Il Meridio.
Six months ago, Victor Orta did what Victor Orta does and snapped up a youngster absolutely no one in West Yorkshire had heard off before.
And, if reports are to be believed, Elia Caprile could be joined at Elland Road by another fresh-faced Azzurri shot-stopper.
TuttoB reported in April that Leeds were battling Premier League giants Arsenal for the signature of Carnesecchi who, after a superb loan spell at Serie B outfit Trapani, has been described as a ‘jewel’ and ‘one of the best young Italians ever’.
High praise indeed.
But how does the Atalanta-owned youngster feel about the prospect of swapping the Champions League quarter-finalists for the Championship league leaders?
That remains to be seen but, one thing’s for sure, he will not be starring between the sticks for Reggina when 2020/21 kicks off.

Reports claim that Atalanta had agreed to send Carnesecchi out to the Serie C outfit, who’s sporting director is the infamous Manchester United ‘shot-stopper’ Taibi.
But the 20-year-old has no interest in dropping so far down the Italian football pyramid. If it is exposure he wants, where better than Premier League football at Elland Road?
As Ilan Meslier and Will Huffer will tell you, Marcelo Bielsa cares not a jot about age of experience. Ability is key and Carnesecchi is certainly not lacking in that department.
