Leeds United are set to fight for Kemar Roofe’s future.
According to The Mirror, Leeds United are set to open talks with forward Kemar Roofe about a new contract after Christmas.
A big-money signing for Garry Monk in the summer of 2016, Roofe was a goalscoring sensation for previous club Oxford United, but had struggled to hit the same form for Leeds.
Three goals in his first season was a major disappointment, and whilst he found the net 11 times in the league last season, there was still a sense that there was untapped potential with Roofe.
Marcelo Bielsa has been the man to unlock that potential, as he has turned Roofe into a deadly striker this season, bagging 10 goals in 15 games.
The 25-year-old has attracted admiring glances from Premier League clubs, and with 18 months left on his deal, Leeds are under pressure to keep him at Elland Road.
Now, it’s claimed that Leeds will in fact open talks about a new deal for Roofe after Christmas, and hope to have him committed to a new contract in early 2019.
Roofe is understood to be happy to stay at Leeds, but wants to have his new-found importance to the side reflected in his contract in order to commit his future to the club.
That shouldn’t be a problem for Leeds, and securing his future for the long term would be the perfect way to start 2019.
