Leeds United are keen on Joe Gelhardt, but even with promotion secured it could be difficult for them to land the signing of the Wigan Athletic forward, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Leeds are in competition with a number of top flight clubs for the youngster, with the likes of Liverpool also keen on landing the Wigan man.

Gelhardt is considered to be one of Wigan’s brightest prospects, and with the Latics suffering so badly financially it is no surprise to see him in demand.

Leeds are looking to capitalise, with Gelhardt one of a number of Wigan players who the Whites are said to have considered signing in recent days.

Those at Elland Road are keen on landing the 18-year-old, and it is said that it would be viewed as a major coup if he was to arrive at Leeds.

The Whites are struggling to get a deal over the line though, for the teenager who has been dubbed as the new Wayne Rooney, due to his style of play (YEP).

Gelhardt has plenty of Championship experience despite his tender years, having made 17 appearances for Paul Cook’s side this season, and scoring once.
