Leeds United were credited with an interest in Stevens earlier on in the window.
Leeds United are still working on a deal to sign Forest Green Rovers teenager Jordan Stevens, according to Daily Mail’s transfer news blog (Wednesday, 09:34), in a deal worth £250,000.
The Daily Mirror claimed midway through January that Leeds were eyeing 17-year-old Stevens, after the Forest Green academy product broke into Mark Cooper’s first team and has continued to shine in the Gloucestershire-based side’s fight against relegation.
Now, it appears Leeds are still keen on the young central midfielder, in what will be another addition to Carlos Corberan’s Under-23 side if the Whites can pull off a deal before Wednesday’s 11pm deadline.
Leeds have already signed Finnish defender Aapo Halme, striker Sam Dalby from Leyton Orient and are closing in on a move to sign West Bromwich Albion teenager Ty Roberts, to name just a few.
Stevens could be the latest youngster to be welcomed at Elland Road, after clocking up 15 appearances for Forest Green this season despite only being born in March 2000. He has even scored in the EFL Trophy against rivals Cheltenham Town.
He has a contract at the New Lawn until the summer of 2019, but Forest Green will have little power in stopping the Whites should they look to complete a six-figure move to sign Stevens due to the difference in stature of both clubs.
