According to Goal, Leeds United are still considering a move for free agent Yasin Ben El-Mhanni – but he is now on trial with Brentford.

The Whites lost for the first time under Marcelo Bielsa on Tuesday night, as they were beaten 2-0 by Preston North End at Elland Road in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Leeds will now be looking to bounce back quickly as they take on Middlesbrough at Elland Road on Friday, and Friday is also the final day for the Whites to bring in any new signings.

Bielsa may be keen on another addition to his squad, and one name regularly linked with the club over the summer is playmaker Yasin Ben El-Mhanni; known as the ‘non-league Riyad Mahrez’ during his time with Lewes.

El-Mhanni’s reputation saw him earn a 2016 move to Newcastle United, but he left the club earlier this year after a dispute over academy coach Peter Beardsley’s conduct towards him, and he has been a free agent ever since.

Now, Goal report that Leeds are still considering a move to sign El-Mhanni, as are Amiens, Heerenveen and Saint-Etienne, but those clubs may not have much more time to weigh up a deal for the attacking midfielder.

The report notes that Brentford have now taken El-Mhanni on trial, and may look to hand him a contract to stay permanently at Griffin Park in what would be a boost to Dean Smith’s Bees squad.

Leeds are searching for another playmaker as cover for Samu Saiz, and El-Mhanni would be a cost-effective signing given his free agent status, but it seems that Brentford are now leading the race for his signature.
