According to UOL, Leeds are putting in extra efforts to buy a striker, and have intensified talks to sign Hertha Berlin forward Matheus Cunha.
What’s the story?
Well, it is said that Leeds haven’t given up in their pursuit of the Brazilian, despite Hertha Berlin asking for a significant fee.
The Bundesliga outfit want between €25m and €30m (£22m – £26m) for their No.10, who impressed during the 2020/21 campaign.
Cunha scored eight goals and provided eight assists in 28 appearances.
UOL believe Marcelo Bielsa has personally requested the signing of the South American, as he did before Raphinha arrived in 2020.
UOL add that Cunha has a contract with Hertha Berlin until June 2025, and is in Brazil’s squad to compete at the Tokyo Olympics this summer.
This would see him miss the start of the season if he did join Leeds.
Where would this leave Rodrigo?

If Bielsa added another centre-forward to his ranks, where would it leave Rodrigo?
The Spaniard only made 14 Premier League starts last term due to injuries, and also the form of Patrick Bamford.
Seeing as Bielsa tends to use just one striker in a 4-1-4-1 system, it’s hard to see how he’ll keep Bamford, Rodrigo and Cunha all happy.

There is one possible option.
Both Rodrigo and Cunha can operate as No.10’s in an attacking midfield role, so we could see them play behind Bamford, not alongside him.
Only time will tell, but if Leeds pull this deal off, it would be a fantastic signing.
