Conner Byrne has reportedly been with the Leeds United academy.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, Leeds United are keen on Glenavon goalkeeper Conner Byrne, having brought him into their academy over the last week.
The Whites predominantly focused on signing first-team players such as Felix Wiedwald, Samu Saiz, Ezgjan Alioski and Pierre Michel-Lasogga over the summer, but director of football Victor Orta also looked to bring in youngsters.
Bryce Hosannah, Oriol Rey, Ousama Siddiki, Adrian Balboa, Madger Gomes, Oliver Sarkic and Kun Temenuzhkov were among the youngsters to join Leeds over the summer, and Orta hasn’t stopped there, given that York City’s Ryan Edmondson joined the club last month.
Now, the Belfast Telegraph report that Leeds have brought in Glenavon goalkeeper Conner Byrne over the last week, allowing him to train with the club’s academy.
Byrne, 14, has hit the headlines in Northern Ireland having made his debut for Glenavon in the Mid-Ulster Cup semi-final win over Portadown last month, and his appears to have caught the attention of English clubs.
The Mirror report that Manchester United are hoping to lead the race for Byrne, whilst Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the teenage goalkeeper.
However, Leeds now appear to have stolen a march on the Premier League sides by bringing Byrne into their academy training over the last week, giving him a glimpse of the famed youth setup at Leeds.
With young goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s future unclear, Leeds may be eyeing up other potential stoppers to develop over the coming years – and Byrne may be something of a coup if the Whites can pull off his signature.
