The Yorkshire Evening Post report Leeds United defender Charlie Taylor is hopeful of earning a move to Liverpool.

The 23-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and despite the club’s desire to get him re-signed, has not indicated a wish to do so.

Taylor issued a transfer request last summer which was denied by the club.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reports: “United’s new co-owner, Andrea Radrizzani, bought into Leeds with the quiet hope of initiating discussions about Taylor’s future but the 23-year-old appears set on leaving when the season ends. Sources close to him believe a move to Liverpool is possible.”

Liverpool need a new left-back with Alberto Moreno proving error prone, although manager Jurgen Klopp has declined to act during the past two transfer windows.

Taylor featured in the EFL Cup against Liverpool earlier this season, when he could well have put himself on the Anfield side’s radar.

He has however been out of action with injury since late December, with Gaetano Berardi filling in adeptly in his absence.

If Taylor is to clinch a Liverpool deal, it could be dependent on him proving his fitness and finishing the season strongly.

The report does not detail whether Taylor could change his mind should Leeds win promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds will be due compensation for Taylor which will run into millions of pounds as he has come through their academy, meaning they will not lose him for free.
