Leeds United are eyeing a permanent deal for Conor Gallagher but Chelsea only want to send the Fulham, Southampton and Crystal Palace target out on loan, according to Football London.

While Rhian Brewster’s remarkable goal-scoring exploits made him the star of Swansea City in recent months, the contribution of another Premier League loanee should not be understated.

After scoring goals for fun at Charlton during the first half of 2019/20, Gallagher brought his all-action approach to the Liberty Stadium in January, helping Steve Cooper’s Swans secure a play-of berth against all the odds.

With the London-born 20-year-old standing head and shoulders above most Championship midfielders, Chelsea are now drawing up plans to throw their 2019 Young Player of the Year in at the deep end.

According to reports, Frank Lampard is keen to see whether Gallagher will sink or swim at Premier League level.

Newly-promoted Fulham are battling Southampton for his signature. Crystal Palace and Leeds are interested too, although Chelsea will resist their attempts to include an option-to-buy clause in the initial loan deal for a £10 million-rated England U21 international.

“He’s a good player,” Charlton manager and Leeds United legend Lee Bowyer told talkSPORT last year.

“Whatever you tell him he does and I just keep encouraging him to get in the box, and things are falling for him at the moment. His willingness and work rate are unreal, so he’s fitted in really well.”

It is that penchant for a perfectly-timed burst into the penalty area that has some labelling Gallagher the second-coming of Frank Lampard himself.
