According to UOL, Leeds have identified Abel Ferreira and Ruben Amorim as options to replace Marcelo Bielsa, if he departs Elland Road in 2022.
What’s the story?
Well, as we all know, Bielsa doesn’t like to commit to contracts exceeding one year, so his future is always on the agenda.
The 66-year-old’s current deal expires in June, and UOL believe Leeds have shortlisted Amorim and Ferreira as potential replacements.
Amorim won the Primeira Liga with Sporting Lisbon last season, their first league title in 20 years.
However, UOL believe he has a €30m (£26m) release clause in his contract.
In regards to Ferreira, UOL describe him as the main candidate to replace Bielsa.
The 42-year-old’s stock is high after winning the Copa Libertadores, and he will travel to Portugal in the coming days to relax with his family and think about his next step.
Ultimately, UOL believe Leeds would prefer to continue with Bielsa, although the Argentine’s unpredictability means plans must be made.
Who else could replace Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds?
One man who seems desperate to replace Bielsa is Diego Martinez, someone who Victor Orta is said to have already endorsed.
La Razon believe the 40-year-old has moved to England, and is already taking English lessons in the hope of replacing Bielsa.
Martinez is also currently unemployed, so he would be available for an immediate hire if Bielsa does walk away from Thorp Arch.
Hopefully, the Argentine stays in Yorkshire, where he has achieved God-like status among the Elland Road faithful.
However, it’s good to see Orta making plans, just in case the worst case scenario happens at the end of the season.
