Leeds United are reportedly amongst the host of clubs interested in signing Giovanni Troupee on loan from Utrecht.
At the start of the January transfer window, it would have seemed highly unlikely that a right-back would be on Thomas Christiansen’s shopping list. However, Luke Ayling now looks set to miss the rest of the season due to injury and that has left Gaetano Berardi as the only option within the first-team whose natural position is on the right-hand side of the defence.
Christiansen has a couple of other players within his squad who can fill in, while dipping down into the under-23 team could also be an option with Bryce Hosannah performing well for Carlos Corberan’s side.
However, it appears that the Whites may have their eye on potentially bringing a new player in. De Telegraaf reports that Leeds are interested in signing Troupee on loan, but they will have to see off competition from a number of Italian sides.
According to De Telegraaf, Sampdoria, Hellas Verona and Benevento are also eyeing a loan move for the 19-year-old, who has made seven appearances in the Eredivisie this term.
Troupee, who is set to be teammates with Leeds-owned Mateusz Klich for the rest of the campaign if he ends up staying, looks set for a bright future. But whether that makes him a good player for Leeds to consider is up for debate given that it appears that the Championship side are only looking at a temporary deal.
